When a cable catches fire in a cable trench, to prevent air circulation, the fireproof isolation door of the cable trench should be closed or both ends blocked, and the suffocation method should be used to extinguish the fire.

4. When extinguishing cable fires, take proper personal protective measures

As cable fires produce a large amount of thick smoke and toxic gases, firefighters should wear gas masks when extinguishing cable fires. To prevent electric shock during rescue operations, rescue workers should wear rubber gloves and insulating boots. When high-voltage cables are found to be grounded in the same phase, rescue personnel should pay attention to the following: Do not enter the room within 4 meters of the fault point, and do not enter the outside within 8 meters of the fault point to avoid injury from step voltage and contact voltage. The rescue of the injured is not limited to this; protective measures should also be taken.

5. Fire-fighting equipment used for extinguishing cable fires

To extinguish cable fires, fire extinguishers such as dry powder fire extinguishers, 1211 fire extinguishers, and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers should be used. Dry sand or loess can also be used for covering. If water is used to put out the fire, a water gun should be used. If the fire is fierce and cannot be extinguished by other methods, after cutting off the power supply, water can be poured into the cable trench to seal the fault and put out the fire with water.

When extinguishing a cable fire, it is strictly prohibited to directly touch the steel armor of the cable or move the cable by hand. The correct fire extinguishing methods should be adopted to put out cable fires to avoid more serious losses caused by improper use.
