Selection principles for Marine isolation mineral insulated cables

At present, the requirements for Marine cables are to meet the flame resistance requirements of IEC60332-3 and pass the Class A bundle flame retardancy test. However, there are currently no clear standards for the performance requirements of isolation mine insulated cables used in ships. Therefore, the selection requirements for ship power cables can serve as a guideline for the selection of isolation mineral insulated cables for ships.

Flame-retardant cables should be used for cables passing through fire-resistant areas, cables of important equipment that still need to remain in a fire-resistant state, and cables of accident power systems.


2. On the same ship, cables with the same temperature resistance grade should be selected as much as possible. Cables with a temperature difference resistance greater than 5℃ should be laid in bundles. When it is difficult to lay in bundles, the rated current of the cables within the bundle should be considered based on the current-carrying capacity of the cables with a lower temperature resistance grade.


3. For Marine cables, halogen-free, low-smoke and low-toxicity bundled flame-retardant cables should be selected, and the choice should be made based on the usage requirements, application scenarios and working conditions of the cables.


4. For AC/DC networking, multi-core cables should be selected as much as possible, and single-core cables should be avoided. When choosing multi-core cables, it is advisable to consider using spare core cables.


5. When there are mechanical protection or shielding requirements for cables in the laying path, the cables should be designed as armored cables with metal braided sleeves. If the cables are laid in damp areas such as outdoor decks or engine rooms, they should have corrosion-resistant outer sheaths.


6. The rated voltage of the cable must not be lower than the nominal voltage of the circuit on which the cable is used. The long-term allowable operating temperature of the cable should be at least 10℃ higher than the ambient temperature of the cable laying site.


In addition, the environmental performance of isolation mine insulated cables for ships must be suitable for the environmental conditions in which they are installed and used, such as shock resistance, mold resistance, oil resistance, vibration resistance, etc. At the same time, it must also meet the environmental protection performance requirements such as nuclear radiation protection, explosive gas protection, electromagnetic protection, and sunlight protection.
